Why one dryer is $300 and another is $390

Mechanical parts are the cheap end: belts, rollers, thermal fuses, igniters, door switches. Electronic and sealed-system parts are the expensive end: control boards, inverter modules, compressors, evaporators. A machine packed with lint or scale needs a teardown, not one part, and that is the commonest reason a simple job grows. We tell you at the diagnostic which side of the line you are on, in writing, before anything is ordered.

Luxury brands

Luxury refrigeration (Sub-Zero, Thermador, Monogram) from our invoices has a median near $830 with the middle half between about $480 and $1,400; pro ranges and ovens (Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Dacor) a median near $570; luxury dishwashers (Miele, ASKO) near $375. The parts cost more; the labor is priced the same.

Repair or replace

Repair when the estimate is under about half the price of a comparable new unit and the appliance is not past twelve years. The usual case for replacing is a compressor or sealed-system failure on an older refrigerator; a pump, valve, element, igniter or board is nearly always worth fixing. About one refrigerator call in three ends with us advising against the repair, and then you pay only the $85 and keep the written diagnosis.

Questions about price

Is the $85 refunded if I go ahead?

It is credited. You pay the repair price minus the $85 already paid, so the diagnosis is free when you repair.

Why do refrigerator repairs cost more?

Sealed-system faults, the compressor, the evaporator and refrigerant, need EPA-certified work and the costliest parts; a fan, thermostat or board on the same refrigerator sits at the low end of the range.

Do luxury brands cost more to repair?

Yes. Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Miele and Gaggenau parts cost several times their mass-market equivalents, so the same job runs higher. Built-in refrigeration from our invoices has a median near $830.

Do you charge extra for same-day or Saturday visits?

No. The $85 diagnostic and the repair prices are the same every day we are open.
